“Stereophonic”: The Greek Co-Produced Theatrical Phenomenon that Swept the Tony Awards

With 13 nominations, the most in the history of the event, "Stereophonic," a Greek co-production, shined at this year's Tony Awards, held on Sunday in New York

Newsroom June 19 02:27

The show, co-produced by Greece’s Faliro House Productions, took home five awards: Best Play, Best Leading Actor in a Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Play, and Best Sound Design of a Play.

“Stereophonic,” directed by Daniel Aukin with original music by Will Butler and Arcade Fire, premiered on Broadway in April. This production, with the most nominations ever in the Tony Awards history, delves into the excitement and turmoil of creativity, set in a 1976 recording studio. A rising rock band is on the brink of immense fame as they record a new album, but under the pressure of success, their relationships begin to strain.

The revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Merrily We Roll Along” won four awards, including one for its star, Daniel Radcliffe.
