The anniversary events of this year’s Miaoulia in Hydra will reach their peak on Friday and Saturday with a focus on Cyprus and a grand musical event at the Hydra port.
Specifically, on Friday, June 28, a scientific conference addressing the Cyprus issue will be held, with an opening address by the ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece, Stavros Augustidis. In the evening, a concert will take place at the Hydra port.
Miaoulia 2024: Anniversary Events in Hydra Reach Their Peak This Weekend
On Saturday, June 29, the festivities will continue with the reenactment of the Naval Battle of Gerontas, featuring the symbolic burning of an effigy of the Turkish flagship. The day will also include a theatrical walk through the port of Hydra, focusing on Admiral Andreas Miaoulis, and highlighting Hydra’s maritime heritage.
The mayor of Hydra, Georgios Koukoudakis, will deliver the opening address for the events.
On the morning of Sunday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m., a solemn doxology will be held at the Assumption Cathedral. This will be followed by a memorial prayer and a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Andreas Miaoulis, culminating in the casting of wreaths into the sea to honor the Admirals of 1821.
