The Ministerial Decision defining the terms, conditions and procedure for the possibility of private practice for doctors, dentists and medical specialists of the National Health Service signed by the Minister of Health , Adonis Georgiades and the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous.
This is about the possibility of maintaining a private practice by NHS doctors, which was prohibited. Also, doctors from NHS hospitals can be employed in the private sector in parallel. The relevant regulation was passed in April in a bill by the Health Ministry.
According to a statement from the Health Ministry, the decision provides for the application procedure and record keeping, the specific conditions for granting the license, the content and duration of the decision on granting the license, the competent authorities and control bodies for compliance with the conditions, as well as the sanctions in case of violation of the conditions for granting the license.
This decision comes in the context of the implementing legislation, which is rapidly advancing important health reforms to ensure optimal delivery of quality health services to citizens.
“Enabling NHS doctors through their employment in the private sector of medicine will leverage their clinical experience, truly boost their income and is expected to simultaneously attract more doctors to the public health system, as they will be able to combine employment in the private health sector as well,” the Ministry of Health noted.
