They even burned the pillow with which they suffocated the 66-year-old in Evia – How they staged everything and tried to erase their tracks

They set fire to the sheets and gloves with which they killed their father – Charges of premeditated murder in a calm state of mind were filed against the two siblings

Newsroom December 18 03:26

The horrific crime in Kymi, Evia, appears to have been meticulously organized, with two siblings and the victim’s son-in-law murdering their father by suffocating him with a pillow. They then staged the crime scene to make it appear that the son was acting in self-defense.

Mystery Surrounding the Motive and the 12,000 Euros
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, with investigators from the Hellenic Police in the area working to shed light on the dark corners of this family tragedy.

It is most likely that the motive was financial, as 12,000 euros were found at the scene, however, according to police sources, it is not yet certain that the murder was committed for the money.

The perpetrators are said to have attacked the 66-year-old while he was sleeping and, wearing gloves, placed a pillow on his face, causing his suffocation.

Subsequently, in an attempt to mislead the authorities, they removed the victim’s clothes, placed a knife in his hand, and moved him to the basement stairs of the house, where he was later found by police.

The lawyer for the two children, Thanasis Tartis, stated that the criminal charge against them is premeditated murder in a calm state of mind, and they are awaiting a postponement from the investigator.

How the Murder Scene Was Set Up in Evia

Before the crime, the 22-year-old son had called the authorities and claimed that his father had attacked him and tried to rape him. Naturally, the perpetrators’ claims did not convince anyone, and after thorough investigation, their involvement was uncovered. The 22-year-old’s phone call was deemed suspicious by the authorities, which directed their attention towards him.

“From the beginning, the position where the body of the 66-year-old was found didn’t add up. It had been moved to the location where it was discovered, which rang alarm bells. Also, the claims that the son was attacked by his father were not convincing. We are talking about a tall, well-built man, while the victim was small-framed,” said sources familiar with the case.

After the crime, the perpetrators burned the evidence (pillow, fabrics, and clothing) in the outdoor area of the house, part of which was found and seized.

Police also found two household knives and a gay-interest magazine, which the perpetrators had placed between two mattresses where the victim had been sleeping, as well as the sum of 12,000 euros.
