At around 2 PM (Greek time) on Friday, Keir Starmer arrived at Buckingham Palace.
There, accompanied by his spouse, Keir Starmer met with King Charles, who officially appointed him as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following his sweeping victory in yesterday’s elections, and invited him to proceed with forming the country’s next government.
The Buckingham Palace confirmed that Sir Keir Starmer is the new Prime Minister with the following statement: ‘Today, the King received in audience the Right Honourable Member Sir Keir Starmer and asked him to form a new government. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer of appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.’
Around 2:30, he departed from the Palace, heading towards Downing Street, where journalists and a crowd of Labour supporters are gathered, awaiting his first speech as the new Prime Minister of Britain.
