The 44-year-old suspect in the cold-blooded execution of a surveyor in Mykonos was arrested on Saturday afternoon while parked in Psychiko.
Police had already detained the suspect on Friday night. This individual is considered the main suspect in the murder case of the Mykonos surveyor.
According to a police announcement, a 44-year-old Greek man was arrested on a warrant for the murder of a 54-year-old man on the morning of Tuesday, July 2, in the Psychiko area.
Authorities found four mobile phones and two SIM cards in the suspect’s possession. The gloves and the vehicle involved have been sent to forensic labs for gunpowder detection.
Although the 44-year-old denies any involvement, the police proceeded with the arrest. He will be brought to court on Sunday.
The suspect was previously involved in the kidnapping of shipowner Periklis Panagopoulos and has connections with a known Greek criminal. He was initially sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping, but the sentence was reduced to 15 years. He has also been involved in robberies, assaults, and extortion.
How did authorities arrive at the suspect’s arrest?
Following his detention, searches were conducted at his home and his girlfriend’s home in Zografou, where he reportedly went immediately after the murder.
The police used video footage to track the main suspect. They identified him on a black scooter in Zografou, where he parked and switched to his motorcycle. The attacker’s body type, captured on video as he picked up an advertising sign he had dropped at the murder scene, provided crucial information.
According to ERT, police located both the scooter and the suspect’s motorcycle. They also searched the suspect’s home and his partner’s home for the clothes, shoes, and helmet worn during the crime.
Alpha reported that the suspect, believing he was far from the crime scene, entered an apartment block to retrieve his motorcycle, leaving the scooter behind. Police tracked him through multiple security camera videos, identifying him entering a specific building where his partner, known to authorities, lives.
The police brought in the suspect’s partner and found a pair of gloves inside her home.
