Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the issue of the Western Balkans and the need to respect the Prespa Agreement during his speech at the first session of the NATO Summit in Washington.
According to reports, the Prime Minister emphasized that progress, security, and prosperity rely on respecting International Law and international agreements.
Referring to U.S. President Joe Biden, who highlighted the importance of the Western Balkans for the Alliance’s security, Kyriakos Mitsotakis specifically mentioned the Prespa Agreement, which allowed for the expansion of the Alliance with North Macedonia’s accession.
The Prime Minister stressed that the full implementation of the Prespa Agreement is essential for the Alliance, the Western Balkans, and the international community.
Violation or selective implementation of the Prespa Agreement, he continued, would undermine the credibility of all efforts to resolve other outstanding issues in the Western Balkans and endanger the region’s stability and security. “Pacta sunt servanda. We must all remember this,” he notably emphasized.
