The Ministry of Environment and Energy is promoting the one-click switch of electricity and gas providers from gov.gr in an effort to help consumers find the cheapest provider and make it easier for them to switch.
Having already institutionalized the right of consumers with variable tariffs (green and yellow) to change their provider on a monthly basis, the political leadership of the Ministry of Environment is also moving forward with measures to facilitate this bureaucratic and largely deterrent process.
The “paperwork” that consumers are currently required to sign when entering into a contract with a supplier, such as authorizations, affidavits, etc., will be replaced with a few clicks on the gov.gr platform.
According to Kathimerini, the Ministry of Energy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Governance, is currently finalizing the above service and is expected to present it and make it available to consumers in August.
“The goal is to have a platform that automates the consumer’s data, so that the change of provider can be done without the exchange of physical or digital documents,” a competent official of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources stressed, speaking to Kathimerini.
A consumer who wants to change provider will submit an application on the online platform. Then, the provider will inform him with an electronic notification about the data he needs to obtain in order to proceed with the contract, asking for his consent to complete the process.
This simplified way of changing supplier will be implemented almost simultaneously with the measures to limit the movement of “strategic defaulters” that the Ministry of Environment has announced since last October.
