The Hungarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Attila Hidegh, met today in his office with the Ambassador of Cyprus in Budapest, Omiros Mavrommatis, and among other matters, informed him about the participation of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Shusha, Karabakh.
The Hungarian Deputy Minister mentioned that Hungary did not participate in this summit as an EU member state and certainly did not represent the EU. It should be noted that Hungary is holding the Presidency of the European Council for this semester.
Attila Hidegh assured the Cypriot ambassador that Hungary respects the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Cyprus and, therefore, recognizes and maintains relations only with the Republic of Cyprus.
The Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, was also invited to and participated as an observer in the summit in Shusha.
