Weather: Special bulletin of dangerous phenomena from EMY – Where we expect rain & thunderstorms

In which areas the strong phenomena will occur - 33 to 35 degrees in most of the country

For heavy rain and thunderstorms, hail in places, and occasionally very strong winds, EMY warns in an emergency bulletin for Thursday.

The bursts will occur in the early morning hours until midday to afternoon mainly in northern Greece.

In detail, the phenomena will occur

1. from the early morning hours until the afternoon, in central Macedonia (including the prefecture of Thessaloniki) and eastern Macedonia (including Thassos)

2. from the early morning hours until late afternoon, in Thrace (including Samothrace in some parts)

3. from morning hours until midday in the Sporades region and occasionally in northern Evia.

The forecast for Thursday is for local rain and occasional thunderstorms in much of the mainland and locally in the northern Aegean. In the Ionian Sea and the eastern and southern Aegean generally clear weather.

Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 and locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly for another day and will be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while only in some places in the Dodecanese it will reach 37 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, Wednesday, we had an escalation of very high temperatures after 16 consecutive days of heatwave, with the maximum temperature reaching 38.7 °C. High temperatures were only recorded in areas of the Peloponnese, southern Crete and Rhodes.

The maximum temperature today was recorded in Asteri, Laconia (38.7°C) and is the first time after 16 consecutive days that a maximum temperature below 40°C has been recorded in the country.

The average maximum temperature in the country was equal to 33.1°C, while 37 out of 505 active stations recorded temperatures above 37°C.

THURSDAY 07-25-2024

WARNINGS
Heavy showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by local hail and occasionally very strong winds (burinia), will occur from the early morning hours until the afternoon in central Macedonia (including the prefecture of Thessaloniki) and eastern Macedonia (including Thassos), from the morning hours until late afternoon in Thrace (including Samothrace) and from the morning hours until midday in the Sporades region and occasionally in northern Evia.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Local showers and occasional thunderstorms in large part of the mainland and locally in the northern Aegean. In the Ionian and the eastern and southern Aegean generally clear weather.
Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 and locally up to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly. It will reach 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and only in some places in the Dodecanese it will reach 37 degrees Celsius.

FRIDAY 26-07-2024
23 to 23°C.
Initially generally clear weather throughout the country, but from early noon in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the northern Aegean, Epirus, Central Greece and the Peloponnese clouds will develop and mainly in the Peloponnese and the northern Aegean there will be occasional local showers.
Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the northern Ionian and Aegean Sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly towards the maximum values, mainly in the west. It will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in the Ionian Islands, the mainland and locally in the eastern Aegean and 32 to 34 degrees Celsius in the rest of the Greek islands.

SATURDAY 27-07-2024
Generally clear weather with occasional clouds on the mainland, mainly in the mountains, in the afternoon.
Winds will blow in the west, initially northwest 4 to 5 Beaufort and from noon variable 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the east north 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in the mainland, the Ionian islands, the eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete and 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in the other island regions.

SUNDAY 28-07-2024
Generally clear weather with a few clouds in the afternoon in the northern mainland.
Winds will blow in the west initially variable 3 to 4 and gradually north-northwestern 4 to 5, in the Ionian Sea locally 6 Beaufort. In the east it will blow from the north 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly in the west.

The weather will be mild in the north and in the west.

MONDAY 29-07-2024
Generally clear weather with a few clouds in the afternoon in the northern mountains.
The winds will blow from the north 4 to 5 Beaufort and in the sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly further.
