Water ingress occurred on the Malta-flagged luxury yacht ETHOS while it was sailing in the bay of Paliokaravo, Kefalonia. The cause was a side door left open by a crew member, allowing water to enter the yacht when the weather turned, which went unnoticed initially.
According to reports, the safety systems were activated. The yacht found shelter in the bay of Evreti, where it anchored.
The five tourists on board have safely disembarked, along with the five crew members who are part of the yacht’s hotel staff.
Meanwhile, the water pumping operation has begun with external assistance.
A private vessel with two coast guards is overseeing the operation, and a diver is expected to inspect the yacht’s hull.
