The fires raging out of control in Attica with high winds making the extinguishing work difficult.

The director of the National Meteorological Service, Thodoris Kolydas said that until the early afternoon hours (5 to 6 p.m.) the northeast winds will remain strong. As he pointed out, the average intensity reached 6 to 7 Beaufort at noon.

From 7 in the afternoon, the winds will gradually start easing, he said, speaking to Star. The intensity in the eastern parts of Attica should drop to about 5 Beaufort, so the ground forces will be facilitated enough, he added.

A detailed wind forecast through Monday afternoon

Regarding the forest fire currently underway in the wider area of northeastern Attica, the next group of meteo maps presents the forecast for wind gusts in Attica from the morning (09:00) of Monday, August 12 until the afternoon (18:00) of the same day.

As typically shown, from the morning (09:00) until the afternoon (18:00) on Monday 12 August, in the wider area of the fire (marked with the red frame on the maps) wind gusts of more than 70 – 80 km/h are expected. Gradual weakening of the winds (and gusts) is expected from 18:00 – 19:00 (there will be further information).
