The temporary easing of winds brings the 40s in several areas of the country, but from the evening and early morning hours of August 15, there will be a new strengthening of winds reaching 6 to 7 and possibly gusts of 7 to 8 Beaufort in the central and northern Aegean Sea, according to a post by EMF director Thodoris Kolydas. The winds are expected to increase again at the weekend.

Very high fire risk in 3 regions

According to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), for today, August 14, 2024, a very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted for the following regions:

Region of Central Macedonia (Region of Halkidiki, including Mount Athos)
Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Region of Thassos, Region of Rodopi, Region of Evros, including the island of Samothrace)
Region of North Aegean (PE Lemnos)
