Kyriakos Mitsotakis gave the assurance in his statement from Chania, where he is for the Feast of the Dormition, that “the state will act swiftly” to compensate the “fortunately few” people affected by the fire in Attica.

At the same time, the Prime Minister sent a message that “the country moves forward only through unity and by combating polarization and toxicity, which have not been beneficial to our country in recent years.”

“I hope these moments of reflection will make us all consider how we can become better and how, united, we can move forward to face the great challenges of the future,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis concluded in his statement, while also thanking the members of the state apparatus and the volunteers for their battle against the flames.

“Today, we celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, faithful to our traditions. It is an important feast of Orthodoxy, giving us all the strength to face great difficulties. At the same time, it is also the day we celebrate our Armed Forces, which we continually strive to strengthen—something essential in the troubled times we live in.

On the occasion of this great feast, I want to once again thank all the members of the state apparatus, as well as all our volunteers, who in recent days have fought very difficult battles against the flames in Attica. I assure the, fortunately few, citizens affected by the fire that the state will act swiftly to compensate them.

The Dormition, like every major feast, should be a moment of reflection and self-awareness, recognizing that our country moves forward only through unity and by combating polarization and toxicity, which have not been beneficial to our country in recent years. I hope these moments of reflection will make us all consider how we can become better and how, united, we can move forward to face the great challenges of the future. Best wishes to all Greeks around the world.”
