Weather: Very high temperatures recede, difficult three days with windy weather

Where there is a very high risk of fire -  At 38.6 °C yesterday the maximum temperature

 After a long period, the very high temperatures are subsiding and we are back to slightly above normal for the season, says the director of the National Weather Service, Thodoros Kolydas.

Posting maps on social media showing the movement of systems through early September, he stresses that it won’t cause much rain, “but September seems to be making a good start for the country.”

Kikilias: Difficult next three days

According to the Risk Assessment Committee that met yesterday, the next three days will see difficult weather conditions and prevailing winds.

“Specifically, in Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Corinthia, Argolida, the islands of the North, Central and South Aegean will be dominated by winds of 6 and 7 Beaufort, gradually from today and will be further strengthened on Sunday,” said Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias shortly after the meeting of the scientific Risk Assessment Committee.

“I call everyone’s attention and ask our fellow citizens to pay maximum attention, because no mistake is allowed,” Kikilias stressed.

Very high fire risk today in Attica and areas of Central Greece, Peloponnese and North Aegean

It is noted that according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted today for the following areas:

Region of Attica
Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
Region of Peloponnese (PE Corinthia, PE Argolida)
Region of North Aegean (PE Lesvos, PE Chios, PE Samos, PE Ikaria)

High temperatures yesterday in Thrace – Maximum temperature at 38.6 °C

The temperature reached 38.6 °C on Thursday 22/08, a value recorded by the station of Kosmio in Komotini at 16:00.

The map shows the distribution of the maximum temperature in the country on Thursday 22/08 and the 8 stations of the meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens network of automatic meteorological stations that recorded the highest temperatures. It is noteworthy that the 3 hottest stations of the day were located in Thrace.

Today’s weather

A few clouds are expected throughout the country, which will increase during the warm hours of the day on the mainland, with the possibility of rain in mountainous areas.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 15 to 33 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from 17 to 36-38 degrees, in Thessaly from 17 to 37-39 degrees, in Epirus from 17 to 36-38 degrees, in the rest of the continental parts from 18 to 37-39 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 21 to 34-36 degrees Celsius, in the Aegean islands and in Crete from 21 to 33-35 degrees Celsius, while in the East Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and South Crete the maximum temperatures will reach 36-38 degrees Celsius in some places.

In the Aegean Sea the wind will blow northwest winds with intensities of 4-5 Beaufort and locally 6 Beaufort. Winds from northwestern directions with intensities of 3-4 Beaufort will blow in the Ionian Sea.


FORECAST FOR TOMORROW SATURDAY 24-08-2024

Commonly clear weather with occasional clouds in the midday and afternoon hours in the western and northern mainland.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 4, in the Ionian Sea locally up to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 5 to 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly and will remain high. It will reach 36 to 38 degrees Celsius on the mainland, 35 to 36 degrees Celsius in the Dodecanese and southern Crete, 32 to 33 degrees Celsius in the rest of the island country and 34 to 35 degrees Celsius locally on the Ionian and eastern Aegean islands.

FORECAST FOR SUNDAY 25-08-2024
Generally clear weather with sparse clouds in the north. In the midday and afternoon hours in the central and southern continents, clouds will develop and in the mountains there will be local rain or rain.

Winds will blow from the north from 3 to 4, in the Ionian Sea locally 5 and in the Aegean Sea 5 to 6 and locally 7 Beaufort with a slight weakening in the evening.
The temperature will drop slightly. It will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius in the mainland, 30 to 31 degrees in the Cyclades, 31 to 33 degrees in the rest of the island country and 34 degrees Celsius in southern Crete and locally in the Dodecanese.

Winds will blow in the west variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, in the east from the north 3 to 5 and in the Aegean 4 to 6 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the afternoon.
The temperature will drop slightly further.

Generally clear weather. During the midday and afternoon hours in the mainland, the Ionian Sea and Crete, clouds will develop and in the northern and western mountains and in the mountains of Crete, local rain will occur.
Winds will blow in the west northeast 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually turning to northwest with the same intensity, in the east from the north 3 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly in the south.

The temperature will be lower in the north, with a slight decrease in the south and a slight decrease in the southwest.
