Video showing the strike on the Greek-owned ship M/T Sounion on Friday morning (23/08/2024) in the Southern Red Sea was released by Houthi rebels on Friday after it was evacuated on Wednesday (21/08/2024) by the French navy.

A powerful explosion can be seen in the video, followed by thick clouds of smoke coming from the ship.

The tanker Sounion, of Delta Tankers, was abandoned for safety reasons by its 25-member foreign crew with the help of a waterborne vehicle of the European Operation EUNAVFOR ASPIDES.

Delta Tankers regarding the attack on its ship expressed its thanks for the naval support and said that plans are in place to transfer the ship to a safer destination – port, where a full assessment (inspections and any repairs) of the damage caused can be carried out.
