Two Delta Airlines employees were killed, and another was injured when an aircraft tire exploded during maintenance at Atlanta Airport.

One of the deceased and the injured individual were employees of the airline, while the other deceased was a subcontractor.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning (local time, afternoon in Greece) as workers were removing the tire.

The aircraft had traveled from Las Vegas to Atlanta on Sunday night.

A spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport confirmed that the incident happened at Delta Airlines facilities. They added that no airport operations were affected.

The IAM union confirmed the tragic incident and is calling for authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances.
