According to SYRIZA sources, Sokratis Famellos was informed by Stefanos Kasselakis on July 24 about his decision to make changes to the leadership of the Parliamentary Group. Kasselakis reportedly informed Famellos of his intention to replace him as the head of the group. Yesterday morning, Kasselakis called him to inform him that the changes would be announced at that day’s meeting.
Specifically, sources from Koumoundourou responded to Sokratis Famellos’ statements that he was only informed yesterday by Stefanos Kasselakis about his plan to replace him as president of SYRIZA’s parliamentary group.
Speaking to SKAI, Famellos described how the decision was communicated to him, stating that Kasselakis contacted him yesterday morning to prepare for the meeting and mentioned that he planned to change the group’s leadership. “Until 11:30 a.m. yesterday, I had no knowledge. I was informed about the Parliamentary Group meeting just like the other MPs,” he emphasized.
However, sources from Koumoundourou insist that Stefanos Kasselakis had already informed Sokratis Famellos on July 24 about his intention to make changes and replace him as president of the group. “Yesterday morning, he called him, informing him that the changes would be announced at this meeting,” the same sources stated.
Famellos: Kasselakis’ decision unjustified and harmful
It should be noted that Sokratis Famellos described Stefanos Kasselakis’ decision to replace him with Nikos Pappas as the head of the Parliamentary Group as unjustified and harmful to SYRIZA.
“Politically, we shouldn’t have opened a new front, especially without reason,” said Sokratis Famellos, speaking to SKAI.
“I hoped until the last moment that Mr. Kasselakis would reconsider,” he added.
“SYRIZA needs to get better, and we all need to work on that together,” he said, emphasizing that “for me, the issue of SYRIZA’s leadership is not up for debate; I am in favor of unity.”
