The scene is changing for summer with thunderstorms and rain just before August leaves as well. Limited instability will prevail from today, with a few midday showers on the mainland and in the Ionian Sea. A three-day period of highly unsettled weather is expected from Thursday through Saturday, affecting the Ionian Islands, the Sporades, Evia and on Friday the highlands of Crete. Athens will see rain on Thursday and Friday, while it is very likely to rain on Saturday, according to the weather forecasts.
The weather in the Cyclades and eastern Aegean will remain summery. From Sunday, the weather is expected to improve and a slight rise in temperature.
Marousakis: Autumn advanced, needs caution
“The cold air mass from the Ukraine region will cause unsettled weather. In the three-day period from Thursday to Saturday we will see several showers, it is not excluded that the phenomena will even create problems. The prefecture of Attica and Halkidiki will be in the rains, we emphasize because some people are still vacationing,” Klearchos Marousakis said in his OPEN forecast.
Klearchos Marousakis stressed that this three-day period will be reminiscent of “late autumn and needs attention”. The rains, thunderstorms and lightning will subside by Sunday.
The weather today
Local clouds are expected which will gradually increase. Local showers and occasional thunderstorms will occur mainly on the mainland and in the Ionian Sea. Dust concentrations in the atmosphere will be relatively increased in the east and south.
The temperature in Western Macedonia will range from 16 to 30 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 19 to 34, in Thessaly from 20 to 36, in Epirus and Western Central Greece from 19 to 34, in the rest of Central Greece from 20 to 35, in the Peloponnese from 18 to 35, in the Ionian islands from 19 to 32, in the North and East Aegean islands from 21 to 34, in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese from 23 to 32 and in Crete from 20 to 33 degrees Celsius.
The winds in the North Aegean will blow from northern directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort, but in Thermaikos and Sporades from noon they will shift to southern winds of the same intensity. In the Central Aegean the winds will blow from northwestern directions 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the South Aegean Sea the winds will blow from west to northwest directions 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will initially blow from variable directions up to 3 Beaufort but from midday they will become westerly 2 to 4 Beaufort.
THURSDAY 29-08-2024
Initially generally clear weather. Gradually from the midday hours in the Ionian Sea, the mainland, Evia, the eastern Aegean islands and Crete clouds will develop, so there will be local rain or rain and occasional thunderstorms, possibly strong in places, mainly in the mainland mountains.
An improvement is expected from the evening hours.
The winds will blow north-northwest 3 to 5 and locally in the eastern Aegean 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly. It will reach 31 to 33 and locally 34 degrees Celsius in the mainland, the Ionian Sea, the Dodecanese and Crete and 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in the rest of the island country.
FRIDAY 30-08-2024
Initially generally clear weather with a few clouds, partly cloudy in the Ionian Sea, the Sporades and Crete with the possibility of local rain. Gradual clouds will develop in the mainland and in the midday – afternoon hours there will be local rain or rain and sporadic thunderstorms, possibly strong in places.
Improvement is expected in the evening hours.
Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort and locally in the eastern Aegean Sea at 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly further. It will reach 30 to 32 and locally 33 degrees Celsius in the mainland, the Ionian Sea, the Dodecanese and Crete and 27 to 29 degrees Celsius in the rest of the island country.
SATURDAY 31-08-2024
A few clouds that will quickly increase in the Sporades, Evia, Crete, the Ionian Islands and gradually in the mainland where there will be local showers or rain and occasional thunderstorms, mainly in the central and southern mainland.
An improvement is expected in the evening hours.
Winds in the west will be variable 3 to 4 and in the Ionian Sea will blow from northern directions up to 5 Beaufort. In the east it will blow from northern directions 3 to 5 and locally in the Aegean Sea 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly.
SUNDAY 01-09-2024
In Evia, the Sporades, eastern Sterea, eastern Peloponnese, eastern Peloponnese, Cyclades and Crete, clouds, partly cloudy with local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with a few clouds, partly cloudy in the midday – afternoon hours, mainly in the western and northern mainland.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 and locally in the Aegean Sea 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly in the west and north.
