Stefanos and Tyler: Wedding in Chania and a Four-Day Celebration

For the second time in just ten months, Stefanos Kasselakis and Tyler Macbeth are ready to say "I do" again, this time in front of 130 guests. The stunning wedding will take place in the beautiful Botanical Garden of Crete, located just outside Chania, surrounded by the majestic White Mountains

Newsroom August 29 11:27

Arriving at the lush, green paradise that is now the Ascordalos area of Chania, it’s hard to believe that only 20 years ago, this breathtaking landscape was nothing but scorched earth. A devastating fire in 2003 destroyed everything, leaving behind a barren wasteland. But where others saw destruction, Petros Marinakis, a native of the area, saw an opportunity. He envisioned a new relationship between humans and nature, and today, his vision has become a reality. The once-charred land is now home to Crete’s only botanical garden, a thriving Eden filled with fruit trees, local herbs, vineyards, and even tropical plants. This vibrant garden will serve as the perfect backdrop for Stefanos and Tyler’s wedding, where they will celebrate their love in the heart of Crete’s natural beauty.

Cretan Gastronomy and an American Wedding Planner

The four-day celebration kicked off on Wednesday, as Stefanos and Tyler, accompanied by their loved ones, arrived at a well-known bar and restaurant in the Old Port of Chania. Their evening featured a dinner of Mediterranean cuisine, including lamb, graviera cheese, herbs, and homemade bread.

The festivities will culminate with a wedding ceremony on a terrace overlooking the Botanical Garden’s 200 acres of lush landscape, which includes a theater and a charming artificial lake. The couple will exchange vows before 130 close friends and family. Despite initially planning to invite 150 guests, they decided to scale back to ensure a more intimate and personal celebration.

Gastronomic Highlights

Naturally, the reception following the ceremony will highlight Cretan cuisine, known worldwide for its exquisite flavors. The couple opted for a buffet rather than a sit-down dinner due to the limited capacity of the venue. Local and seasonal products will take center stage on the menu, featuring lamb, cheese, marathopites (fennel pies), honey, local wines from Crete’s growing vineyards, cocktails based on Cretan spirits, raki, and organic lemonade served with sustainable pasta straws rather than plastic ones.

Music and Entertainment

The evening in this secret garden will also include music, with rumors suggesting soft violin accompaniment. However, it’s almost impossible to have a Cretan wedding without the iconic sounds of the lyre and lute, adding a traditional element to the event. The four-day celebration will also include pre-wedding and post-wedding festivities centered around a luxurious villa in Akrotiri with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. Despite the occasional interruption by nearby military jets, the event promises to be magical.

A Seaside Twist

Apart from the festivities on land, the couple has chartered a boat to take guests to some of Chania’s iconic beaches. This may include the famous beach of Stavros, where the classic film “Zorba the Greek” was filmed.

Political and Social Interest

The wedding of Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of Greece’s main opposition party, and Tyler Macbeth is set to be one of the most talked-about events since Andreas Papandreou’s high-profile marriage in 1989. From the moment the couple introduced themselves, they’ve captured widespread public interest, and their upcoming wedding is no exception. Adding to the anticipation, Kasselakis and Macbeth have also launched a wedding registry on Honeyfund.com, inviting contributions from friends, family, and even the general public to help fund their dream honeymoon.

The Love Story

Stefanos and Tyler met in 2020 at a gym in New York, where they were both living at the time. After crossing paths repeatedly, Tyler made the first move, sparking a relationship that has now led to marriage. Both men have built strong bonds with each other’s families and are planning to grow their own family together. Tyler, who has moved to Greece to support Stefanos’ political career, expresses confidence in their love and future, regardless of the challenges ahead.

In a nod to the future, the couple’s wedding will not only celebrate their love but will also leave a lasting impression, with traditional Cretan food, intimate gatherings, and a blend of Greek and American culture.
