Thessaloniki: 13 more accused of involvement in 14 criminal organisations temporarily detained

So far 19 defendants have been remanded in custody, with the plea process to be completed tomorrow

Thirteen more of the total 37 individuals arrested for involvement in 14 criminal organizations have been remanded in custody following their testimonies to the 5th Regular Investigating Judge of Thessaloniki.

The police had announced the dismantling of these organisations, which were primarily involved in burglaries, grand theft, robberies, and drug trafficking. So far, 19 defendants have been detained, with the testimony process expected to conclude tomorrow.

According to police reports, these gangs operated from July 2020 until last May, during which they committed 553 criminal acts, with total proceeds exceeding 2.76 million euros.

All the accused were arrested based on relevant warrants, and the case file contains more than 20,000 pages.

The testimony phase began yesterday with the detention of the first six defendants. Today, 16 more individuals appeared before the investigating judge.

Of those who testified today, 13 were remanded in custody, while the remaining three were released under restrictive conditions, including two young individuals who were minors at the time of their offenses, as well as a woman.

The process is expected to conclude tomorrow with the testimonies of the remaining 15 arrestees.
