A few thousand voters are expected to decide the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, just two months before voting day, according to a CNN poll. The poll reveals that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are running a tight race in at least three critical states.
Both candidates are racing to attract new voters, with Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania emerging as key battlegrounds. Pennsylvania, in particular, appears to be the state that could determine the winner.
On Wednesday, Trump visited Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for an interview moderated by Fox News host Sean Hannity, where he took questions from the audience. Hannity’s conservative views have made him a favorite for the Republican candidate. The interview was recorded in the afternoon and aired at 9:00 p.m. Washington time (4:00 a.m. Greek time).
Meanwhile, Harris was in New Hampshire yesterday, focusing on small and medium-sized businesses. In this typically Democratic-leaning state, the U.S. Vice President visited a brewery founded by two women. The 59-year-old candidate pledged to increase the small business tax credit from $5,000 to $50,000.
Kamala Harris’ Campaign Faces Potential Stagnation
Harris, whom Trump has labeled a “communist,” is working to build her image as a candidate supporting the middle and working classes, in contrast to her opponent, who is criticized for protecting the wealthy and multinational corporations.
Despite a surge in her campaign following Joe Biden’s unexpected exit from the race and the Democratic National Convention, Harris’ campaign risks falling into stagnation. Several columnists from well-known newspapers, generally sympathetic to the Democrats, have recently urged her to present her plans for the country, noting that she didn’t provide substantial answers in her highly anticipated interview last week with Tim Walsh.
“The honeymoon is over (for Kamala Harris),” Trump remarked in an interview on a local radio station yesterday. He, too, has lost the lead he had in July’s polls.
Additionally, U.S. Steel, the historic steel company, was confirmed yesterday as a major election issue. According to reports, President Biden is prepared to block its acquisition by Japanese rival Nippon Steel.
Kamala Harris at 47%, Donald Trump at 45%
In a poll published yesterday by The Economist, Harris leads with 47% of the national vote, compared to Trump’s 45%.
Many Republicans want the billionaire to adopt a calmer tone and focus his criticisms on the Biden-Harris administration’s record. However, the 78-year-old continues his personal attacks on his opponent: “She’s a Marxist, she will destroy our country,” he reiterated yesterday.
Liz Cheney, a former Republican congresswoman and vocal Trump critic, announced yesterday that she will vote for Harris.
According to CNN’s poll, about 15% of voters in key states remain undecided. The poll shows Harris leading in Wisconsin and Michigan, while Trump holds an edge in Arizona.
The Democratic candidate is expected to visit Pennsylvania today, home to U.S. Steel.
