The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has been in Chios since yesterday, 5/9, in the afternoon for a four-day visit at the invitation of the Boreal Aegean Region. He will participate in the scientific workshop of the 3rd Chios Festival.
In a particularly warm atmosphere and with honors, His Eminence Metropolitan Markos, Metropolitan of Chios, Psara, and Oinoussa, His Eminence Metropolitan of Aetolia and Akarnania, His Eminence Metropolitan of Aetolia and Akarnania, His Holiness Bartholomew, received the Ecumenical Patriarch of Chios yesterday afternoon at the port of Chios. Damascynos, the Regional Governor of the North Aegean Konstantinos Moutzouris together with the Member of Parliament of the Southwestern Diocese of Greece Notis Mitarakis, and representatives of the political and military authorities of the country as well as a large number of people.
Starting from Tsesme in Asia Minor, His Holiness traveled by boat to Chios on a four-day visit until Sunday 8 September 2024, to attend the scientific conference of the 3rd Chios Festival, in response to an invitation from the North Aegean Region.
“I love the dear people of Chios with all my heart,” His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch said upon his arrival in myrobolic Chios.
Today, Friday, September 6, the Ecumenical Patriarch’s program includes a visit to the Regional Unit of Chios, while in the afternoon, he will honor with his presence the conference dedicated to Climate Change. Also present will be the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Professor Prokopis Pavlopoulos, and other distinguished speakers, including the President of the Academy of Athens, Stamatis Krimizis, as well as the Secretary General of the Academy of Athens, Christos Zerefos. Afterward, His Holiness will visit the Library of the Holy Metropolis of Chios, Psara and Inoussa “AGIOS ANGAPITOS” where he will be proclaimed Honorary President.
According to the program, tomorrow, Saturday, September 7, the Ecumenical Patriarch will inaugurate the facilities of the Merchant Navy Academy and the “Tsakos Maritime Education” Naval High School, which were implemented on the initiative of the Chios Lord of the M.t.H.E., Captain Panagiotis Tsakos. In addition, he will visit the cemetery in Vassileoniko, to celebrate a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of the late Metropolitan of the former Belgium, Mr. Panteleimon.
The Ecumenical Patriarch will also visit the Mastic Museum in Pyrgi, where he will attend a lunch organized in his honor by the Mastic Producers’ Association of Chios.
On the last day of his visit to the island, on Sunday, His Holiness will preside at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Kallimasia, where a Memorial Service of the Patriarchs will be held.
The Holy Mass will be celebrated at the Monument of the Patriarch of Constantinople.
The Ecumenical Patriarch will depart from the island of Chios at noon on Sunday.
The Pope will be leaving on Sunday on Sunday morning.
