Further growth in passenger traffic moving into double digits for the full year is expected for 2024 by Greece’s largest airport, having already posted an eight-month increase of 13.9% with a total of 21.26 million passengers.
Meanwhile, as Athens International Airport‘s CEO Yannis Paraschis said during his presentation of the first half-year results to analysts, the investment program is on track and on schedule for the implementation of the first phase of the airport’s expansion to 33 million passengers by 2028.
More news on the ongoing studies and planning is expected in the coming weeks, while the financing issue is also expected to be completed by the end of the year. It should be noted that based on what Athens International Airport has disclosed so far, the financing for the first phase of the expansion (of the total of three in which the airport will gradually reach the capacity to handle up to 50 million passengers) requires funds equivalent to 650 million euros, with the tender for the selection of the project manager already going on.
