SYRIZA is making a dynamic appearance, with nearly the entire Political Secretariat and most MPs from the main opposition attending the morning meeting with the management of the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) HELEXPO. They sent a message of unity, cooperation, and openness, in the wake of Stefanos Kasselakis’ removal from the party leadership.
During the meeting, the head of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance’s Parliamentary Group, Nikos Pappas, emphasized the need to safeguard the public character of the Thessaloniki International Fair to TIF-Helexpo President Tasos Tzikas.
“The public character is not fully achieved with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) method, which will be used for the redevelopment of the conference and exhibition center,” said Nikos Pappas. He pointed out that “unfortunately, the project was not included in the Recovery Fund, so it could be fully financed with national and European funds.”
He emphasized that there have been significant delays since 2019, while under the SYRIZA government, the redevelopment project had progressed rapidly. He also stressed the need to secure more green spaces.
“The Thessaloniki International Fair is not just a tool for the city’s development; it is the engine. However, it also needs the ‘wagons’ and the infrastructure projects that can help Thessaloniki grow into the role it deserves. Unfortunately, these projects are not moving forward,” emphasized the head of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance’s Parliamentary Group.
