The new Traffic Code is to be submitted to the Parliament by the end of September.
According to reliable sources, the new code will provide for high penalties for those who violate the red traffic light, drive under the influence of alcohol, talk on the mobile or do not wear a belt or helmet, etc.
The basic philosophy of the new Traffic Code according to the same sources is, the support of the motorcycle, protect its riders and seek greater safety through the universal use of helmets. The helmet is a key means of protection and its use is non-negotiable for all. Motorcyclist safety is inextricably linked to helmet use. It is not just a legal rule, but a rule of life.
The 6 main points emphasized in the new code are :
1. The mandatory use of helmets, both for large and smaller motorcycles. Severe penalties for repeat offenders.
2. The reduction of speed in urban areas. It is important to understand that speed must be reduced as most accidents occur in cities, with 74% of them causing death or injury. Reducing speed is a crucial measure to reduce road accidents.
3. The design of streets to reduce speed and promote micro-mobility. The creation of safe streets will help reduce speed and promote the use of bicycles and skates, always with safety in mind. We are talking about speeds of up to 25 km/h in such vehicles, with a helmet and all safety rules.
In addition, we emphasize “filtering” the traffic of motorcyclists. With the new approach, motorcyclists will be able to move safely without being hindered by the congestion of cars. So micromobility is a critical point, and we are promoting the use of bicycles and electric skates while ensuring the right conditions for their safe use.
4. Anti-social behaviour – recidivist offending
5. Vehicle safety and driver responsibility
6. High punishment for violations: a) red light, b) helmet, c) alcohol, d) seat belt, e) mobile phone.
