AEK’s Announcement:
“AEK FC announces the signing of footballer Anthony Martial. The international French striker has signed a contract with our team until the summer of 2027.”
After completing his transfer, the 28-year-old star said to aekfc.gr: “I am very happy. AEK is an opportunity for me, and I will give my best to achieve great things, win trophies, and bring joy to the team’s fans.”
Anthony Martial was born on December 5, 1995, in Massy, France. At the age of 8, he joined the youth academy of his local club, Uly, and six years later, Lyon decided to bring him in. In his first season with the U17 team, he scored 32 goals in 21 matches and made four appearances with the first team until the summer of 2013, when, at 17, Monaco paid €5 million to acquire him.
Over the next two years with the Principality’s team, he made 70 appearances and scored 15 goals. In the summer of 2015, he took the biggest step of his career, as on the last day of the transfer window, Manchester United spent almost €60 million, including bonuses, to sign him. This was a record amount in Premier League history for a player under 20.
Martial’s career at United skyrocketed. He made 317 appearances for the club (90 goals, 47 assists) over the next nine years, with a brief six-month loan spell at Sevilla in the second half of the 2021-22 season (12 matches, 1 goal, 1 assist). In terms of titles, he won the FA Cup in the 2015-16 season, the Carabao Cup in the 2016-17 season, the Community Shield in 2016, the UEFA Europa League in the 2016-17 season, the Carabao Cup in the 2022-23 season, and the FA Cup in the 2023-24 season.
Additionally, Martial has represented all the French national youth teams, and in September 2015, he made his debut with the senior national team, with whom he has 30 appearances and two goals, being a part of the squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
“Anthony, welcome to the AEK family!”
