The digital services that the municipality of West Lesvos provides to its citizens were presented at an event at the municipal theatre of Kalloni in the presence of the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, at the first Open Digital Workshop with the general title “Digital Transition, Artificial Intelligence, and Entrepreneurship in the local community”.
Applications were presented that operate on the digital platform of the Municipality and facilitate the citizens in their transactions and their general contact with the municipality, such as the digital assistant, the possibility of electronic payments, the electronic monitoring of the requests of the citizens, which have been implemented by the technology and innovation company Crowdpolicy.
The Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou said that both the municipality of West Lesvos and the municipality of Mytilene are among the first municipalities in the country to be included in actions for the digital transition of municipalities, announcing that the municipality of West Lesvos was approved for funding from the smart cities programme. Mr Papastergiou also referred to the issue of coverage of areas facing problems with the TV signal and noted that by the beginning of 2025 coverage will be completed in 13 points that have been identified in Lesvos.
The Mayor of West Lesvos Taxiarchis Verros in his welcome address stood on the importance of the event of organizing a digital conference essentially in West Lesvos and the honor of the presence of the Minister of Digital Governance in it “from 2019 to date when as a founding municipal authority setting up the newly established Municipality of West Lesvos, we decided by doing practically everything from the beginning, to do it exactly as the modern era dictates. With a municipality oriented precisely to pass its operation through the possibilities provided by today’s technology, for the benefit of us, the elected officials and employees of our municipality, and, above all, the citizens we serve. To be in a position today to have a modern digital platform for the municipality, we took the strategic decision that vindicates us, to work with Crowdpolicy. And this partnership has made us a respected partner over the years among the municipalities that operate digitally, with three innovation awards in leading institutions such as the Best City Awards.”
At the Open Digital Workshop, the municipality’s digital platform was presented by the Deputy Mayor of Digital Policy of the Municipality of West Lesvos Asanoula Giannis and the founders of the innovation and technology company Crowdpolicy Giorgos Karamanolis and Michalis Psallis, but also from the University of the Aegean that participates in the digital upgrading of the services of the municipality of West Lesvos with the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication.
Christos Kalloniatis, Professor and President of the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of the Aegean, presented the application Smartbins of the Municipality of West Lesvos, which was implemented by the University in collaboration with Crowdpolicy.
The first Open Digital Workshop of the municipality of West Lesvos was also attended by the Vice President of the North Aegean Regional Council Alexander Lymperis and the Mayor of Mytilene Panagiotis Christofas who gave a greeting.
