Households living in rented accommodation spend on average 16.8% of their budget on rent.
The share of average spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages and housing by households in the poorest 20% of the population is 55.8% of household expenditure, while the share of the richest 20% of the population is 24.8%.
Average annual household spending in 2023 appears to be down by 20.5% compared to 2008.

The average annual household expenditure on purchases in the year 2023 was 20,223.36 euros, recording an annual increase of 5.3% compared to 2022. At constant prices, the average annual household expenditure increased by only 1.7% or 347.16 euros, due to the effect of inflation, according to the Consumer Price Index year 2023 which was 3.5%.
The largest share of the expenditure of the average household budget, at current prices, concerns:
foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages (20.7%),
housing (14,1%) and
transport (13.1%),
while the smallest share of expenditure (3.4%) is on education and alcoholic beverages and tobacco
The survey shows that, apparently due to the revaluations, between 2022 and 2023 there was a decrease in consumption (in quantities) in all food items: olive oil, -13.6%, alcoholic beverages -12.7%, Fish, -11.8%, rice, -10.7%, cheese, -6.1%, meat -6.1%, eggs, etc.
