The Council of Ministers has decided to impose stricter penalties, with a minimum sentence of one year, for the offense of inadequate parental supervision as part of a broader effort to combat juvenile violence.
In addition to harsher penalties for parents, a range of rehabilitative measures will be introduced for offending adolescents aged 12 to 15. However, the Ministry of Justice’s proposal to lower the rehabilitation age from 15 to 14 was not approved.
The cabinet also decided to expand the definition of weapon possession, which now includes instances where minors are found carrying items such as knives.
