Weather: October kicks off with sunshine and strong winds

The first bellow zero temperatures of autumn on Tuesday morning

With northerly winds continuing today, Tuesday, reaching up to seven Beaufort locally and the temperature being two degrees lower than autumn levels, the weather will continue in most of the Greek territory, according to the EMY forecast.

The weather is forecast to be generally clear across the country through Wednesday. Temperatures will rise slightly.

On Thursday and Friday we expect localized showers in the northwest, while winds will gradually shift to southerly and temperatures will rise further. However, according to available forecast data, rain in several areas is forecast for the weekend.

In more detail, today Tuesday the weather will be generally clear across the country, with only a few clouds mainly in the Aegean Sea in the morning. Winds will blow north-northwest up to 5 to 6 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea, Thermaikos and the northwestern and central Aegean, locally up to 7 Beaufort in the southeastern Aegean. The temperature in autumn levels in most areas will reach 23 to 26 degrees Celsius.

In Attica the weather will be generally clear. The winds will be northerly 3 to 4 and in the east at most up to 5 Beaufort, the temperature will reach 26 degrees.

In Thessaloniki the weather will be clear. The winds will be northwest 6 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the afternoon, the temperature will reach 23 degrees.

The first negative temperatures of autumn on Tuesday morning 01/10

The first negative minimum temperatures of fall were recorded early Tuesday morning 01/10 in the northwest mountains. The lowest minimum was recorded in Vovousa, Ioannina, where the mercury dropped to -1.1 °C. The table shows the 8 stations of the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr that recorded the lowest temperatures on Tuesday 01/10.

It will be generally clear today weather with the mercury reaching up to 27 degrees Celsius and the winds weakening and turning to southerly. However a new wave of bad weather is coming in the next few days, according to meteorologists.

In a post on X, Thodoros Kolydas talks about local phenomena mainly in the northwest on Thursday and Friday and continues, stating: “More phenomena on Saturday in the west central and north, possibly locally intense in the NW. NW winds diminish by Tuesday winds and turn to southerly by Wednesday with normal temperatures for the season.”

Sunshine is expected across the country with only a few clouds in places.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius, in the rest of northern Greece from 8 to 24 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 8 to 26 degrees Celsius, in Epirus from 9 to 25-26 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 10 to 25-27 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 14 to 24 degrees Celsius and on the Aegean islands in Crete from 13 to 24-26 degrees Celsius.

In the Aegean Sea, northwest winds will blow with intensities of 4-5 Beaufort and locally 6 Beaufort. Northwest winds with intensities up to 5 Beaufort will blow in the Ionian Sea.

WEDNESDAY 02-10-2024
Generally clear weather. Clouds will develop gradually from the afternoon in the Ionian Sea, which will increase in the evening. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 4 and in the southeast up to 5 Beaufort. From noon in the west they will turn to south southwestern 3 to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 22 to 25 degrees Celsius in the northern mainland, 26 to 28 degrees Celsius in the rest of the mainland and 24 to 27 degrees Celsius on the islands.

In the west, clouds, partly cloudy with local showers and in the northern Ionian and Epirus sporadic thunderstorms, with improvement in the evening. In the rest of the country generally clear weather and only in the noon and afternoon hours in the central and northern mainland will develop occasional clouds.
Winds will blow from southern directions 3 to 5 and in the Ionian Sea locally 6 Beaufort and only in the Dodecanese will blow northwest 2 to 4 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly.

FRIDAY 04-10-2024
Initially in the west and the north and gradually in the central areas, increasing clouds with local showers and mainly in the west from the afternoon hours, sporadic thunderstorms, possibly strong in places on the Ionian Islands, Epirus and western Central Greece. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with a few local clouds.
Winds will blow from southern directions 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly further.

SATURDAY 05-10-2024
In the Ionian Sea and the mainland, increasing clouds with local rain and occasional thunderstorms are forecast. The phenomena, which in the west, central and north are likely to be occasionally intense, will weaken in the evening and will be limited in the west and north. In the Aegean islands, thin clouds, sometimes more dense.
Winds will blow from the south at 4 to 5 Beaufort and in the Ionian Sea and the northern Aegean Sea at times up to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop in the west, central and northern regions.
