Türkiye: Erdogan Conducts Emergency Meeting with Bakhcheli Ahead of National Security Council Session

The upcoming National Security Council meeting will prioritize discussions on the strategic measures to be implemented against Israel. Additionally, key topics will include the latest developments in Cyprus and the evolving relations between Türkiye and Greece

Newsroom October 3 04:30

O Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an emergency meeting with his government partner and leader of the far-right Nationalist Action Party, Devlet Bahceli, hours before Türkiye’s National Security Council meeting, where developments in the Middle East are expected to be discussed.

A key item on the National Security Council’s agenda will be measures to be taken against Israel, while developments in Cyprus and Türkiye’s relations with Greece are also expected to be discussed.

In his speech at the beginning of the new parliamentary term, the Turkish president had stated that Israel’s next target is Türkiye, while after the Iranian missile attack on Israel, the Turkish armed forces proceeded to assess the situation at the tactical operational level, and in this context, the positions to be expressed by the heads of the three branches are expected to be discussed at the Council meeting.

Council members will also present information on the situation on the ground regarding Turkish military operations against Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq and Syria, in connection with Türkiye’s opening towards Damascus.

Other regional and international issues will also be discussed, including the Russia-Ukraine war and relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
