The 19,181 new public sector hiring program from 2025 – Focus on education, security forces, and health system

For the first time, 1,534 positions will be exclusively announced for people with disabilities (PWD) - 4,000 new positions in healthcare - Strengthening of the Evros region

Newsroom October 7 06:02

Earlier this week, the Cabinet approved the 2025 hiring plan, which applies to all public sector agencies and various sectors and specialties.

According to the plan, 19,181 new jobs will be filled, prioritizing the needs of social services and the security forces. For the first time in history, a significant number of positions will be available for people with disabilities.

The 2025 hiring plan was prepared over a year to address urgent needs and was presented to the Cabinet by Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios and Deputy Minister Vivi Charalambogianni, to ensure the hiring process is not delayed.

Of the 19,181 new jobs, 7,300 will be for administrative personnel of all educational levels and will be announced via ASEP. About 6,800 positions are for the Armed Forces and Security Services, with personnel expected to join the Greek Police, Fire Department, and Coast Guard. Of these, 600 positions will go to special guards, and 450 new positions will further strengthen the forest commandos.

From the 7,300 administrative hires, about 3,500 will support municipalities and regions, focusing on better public service, with particular attention to areas affected by recent natural disasters.

4,000 New Jobs in Healthcare

Healthcare will see significant reinforcement with 4,000 new hires, including 1,185 doctors and 2,700 nursing and paramedical staff for the National Health System (ESY) and Primary Healthcare.

Additionally, higher education will double the number of academic staff (ΔΕΠ), with 883 new positions approved for public universities and 80 new positions through the National School of Public Administration and Local Government.

Regarding ASEP announcements, by tomorrow, Monday, the official gazette (FEK) will publish for the first time the announcement of 1,534 positions for people with disabilities across all educational levels. This fulfills the commitment to absorb 12% of approved positions from the 2022-2024 hiring plans for people with disabilities, aiming for their social and professional inclusion.

By November 10, the announcement for 1,110 positions in the compulsory education category will be published, followed by 2,237 positions for secondary education employees by the end of November. These announcements will follow an objective scoring system based on merit.

Strengthening Evros

In addition, following the final results of ASEP’s 3GB announcement for university-level graduates, ASEP is now preparing three new announcements for the hiring plans of 2024 and 2025, specifically for:

  • 160 positions for specialized scientific personnel,
  • 5,130 positions for university graduates, and
  • 1,990 positions for technical education graduates.

These announcements will follow the provisions of the new bill from the Ministry of Interior, which will be submitted to Parliament this week. The bill includes increased merit points for local candidates to fill public sector positions in island, mountainous, and remote municipalities, as well as in the Evros region, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced to encourage hiring locals.

15-Year Tenure Requirement

As compensation for the increased local merit points, a 15-year mandatory service period in these areas will be required for new hires. The new regulations also aim to shorten the hiring process, ensuring faster absorption of successful candidates.
