Time Change: When Do We Turn the Clocks Back – Are We Gaining or Losing Sleep?
Winter time returns on October 27 – Clocks will show 3:00 AM instead of 4:00 AM.
The time change and the start of wintertime is approaching.
The clocks will change on the last Sunday of October, which is the 27th, with the clocks needing to be set back one hour early in the morning as part of the wintertime.
During winter time, when we turn the clocks back one hour, instead of showing 4:00 AM, our clocks will show 3:00 AM.
This results in gaining an extra hour of sleep.
Why is the Time Change Implemented?
The time change is applicable in many countries, but not all. Some choose to adopt the change between winter and summer time, including Greece. This change occurs one hour forward or backward from solar time, depending on the season. This system aims to optimize daylight usage for energy savings.
On one hand, the time change occurs on the last Sunday of October, marking the start of wintertime. Thus, the clocks need to be set back one hour early in the morning as part of the wintertime.
On the other hand, summertime is implemented on the last Sunday of March. Therefore, the clocks need to be set forward one hour early in the morning during the summer period.
