Paul Lowe, an acclaimed war photographer, was tragically killed while hiking. His 19-year-old son has been charged with murder and is set to appear in court today

Newsroom October 16 02:45

Authorities in California have arrested the 19-year-old son of renowned British photojournalist Paul Lowe, accusing him of murdering his father on October 12 in the San Gabriel Mountains. Lowe, who covered numerous war zones, including the Siege of Sarajevo, was found on a hiking trail with fatal stab wounds to his neck, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s report.

His son, Emir Lowe, is facing murder charges and will appear in court in West Covina.

“The Homicide Bureau has presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review,” said the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “The DA has filed one count of murder against Emir Lowe for the killing of his father, Christian Paul Lowe. No additional information is available at this time.”

Details of the Tragedy

According to police, the incident occurred around 3:28 p.m. on Mount Baldy Road, near Stoddard Canyon Falls. Responding to reports of an attack with a deadly weapon, officers found a “white adult male with an upper torso injury.” San Bernardino Fire Department personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.

Authorities noted that a man matching the suspect’s description was seen leaving the crime scene and was later involved in a solo car crash a few miles away. He was arrested pending further investigation.
