A stunning video has been making the rounds on the internet in recent hours showing dozens of black-winged blacktip sharks and stingrays moving through extremely shallow, crystal clear turquoise waters, creating a scene reminiscent of a natural aquarium.

The footage was shot from a drone at “Thinadhoo Shark Beach” in the Maldives, a destination renowned for its unique marine life.

In the video released on X, sharks can be seen gliding over white sand in waters so shallow that visitors can be seen walking just a few feet away from them, taking in the spectacle up close.

The image has sparked a lot of interest on social media, with many users commenting that the landscape looks “unreal” or even created by artificial intelligence.

However, this is a real location in the Maldives, which is a shark sanctuary, helping to maintain healthy populations that often move into shallow lagoons.

Unknown and fascinating facts to know about sharks

Black-winged reef sharks are small in size and are considered non-aggressive to humans, which allows visitors to safely observe them at close range. Their presence in shallow waters is a common occurrence on tropical reefs, particularly in protected areas.

It is worth noting that feeding sharks and rays is strictly prohibited in the Maldives as it can affect their natural behaviour. Simple observation, however, is a very popular experience for travellers and photographers visiting the region.
