A scammer who defrauded an elderly man of €19,000 in Pella has been identified

The scammer, along with accomplices, called the elderly man and asked for money, claiming it was needed for a supposed surgery on his son - The person who collected the money has been arrested

Newsroom October 17 04:39

Nearly eight months after the scam targeted an elderly man in the Pella region, who paid a significant amount believing his son needed emergency surgery, the identity of the foreign “collector” to whom the money was handed over has been identified.

The elderly man was terrified on the morning of February 29, when a man claiming to be a doctor called him and said that his son had been seriously injured in a car accident and required money for surgery. He even heard another man pretending to be his son, begging him to act quickly.

Using this method, the scammers managed to swindle €19,000 from the man, which was received by the foreign individual. A case has been filed against him by the Pella Security Police for organized crime and fraud, which has been submitted to the Public Prosecutor of Giannitsa. The investigation continues to identify his accomplices and to uncover any other similar fraud cases.
