Serena Williams recently shared in a TikTok video that she experienced a health scare, requiring surgery to remove a cyst from her neck, which had grown to the size of a grapefruit.
The 43-year-old retired tennis star revealed that she first discovered the cyst last May.
Although initial tests confirmed that it was a benign cyst, Williams noticed that it continued to grow.
When the cyst reached the size of a grapefruit, her doctors advised her to have it removed due to concerns that it could either leak the fluid it had accumulated or become infected.
“So, here I am after the removal. I’m thankful and fortunate that everything went well and that I’m healthy,” Williams said in the video.
The video ends with Williams, still recovering, visiting a doll store with her eldest daughter, Olympia. Despite her post-surgery state, the 43-year-old athlete remarked, “Mom may be suffering, but mom has to keep showing up.”
