Norway train derailment: One dead, several injured in northern region

A passenger train traveling from Trondheim to Bodø derailed, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, with emergency services on-site

One person was killed in a passenger train derailment that occurred today, Thursday (October 24), in northern Norway.

Initially, the police and the operator SJ reported that preliminary information suggested there were no serious injuries among the 90 passengers on board.

However, Norwegian emergency services later stated that there were five or six injured individuals and that the train was carrying “between 50 and 70 passengers.”

The train, which was traveling from the city of Trondheim (west) to Bodø, derailed during its route.

“Three helicopters are on the way, along with all emergency services,” emphasized the Bodø Rescue Center, adding that “the extent of the damage is not yet known.”

“We believe we have evacuated all passengers, but we are not certain as we do not have a passenger list,” stated police officer Bernt-Are Eilertsen.
