The Mayor of the region has suspended the water supply to the cosmopolitan village of Arachova, due to the acute water shortage affecting the place and its infrastructure. With the shutdown being in effect from 1am to 6am, the announcement caused a sensation as Arachova is facing previous water scarcity problems due to the prolonged drought and the rapid increase in the number of visitors.
The Mayor of Arachova, recognizing the criticality of the situation, took action by activating water trucks which carry out continuous water transfers from the Mornos River. Through these routes it is attempted to cover the basic water supply needs, as the reserves of Arachova are not sufficient to meet the demand.
Hoteliers, who were informed in time about the decision, conveyed the information to their customers, trying to reduce the inconvenience of visitors. However, the issue remains critical, with more than 10,000 visitors to Arachova going without water for their basic needs tonight.
This year’s drought and shortcomings in local infrastructure have exacerbated the problems, highlighting the need for an immediate and long-term response. The mayor assured residents and visitors that water transfers will continue until the situation is normalized and appealed for responsible use of available resources.
