Weather in October – Concern about drought: meteo speaks of the driest month in 15 years

October leaves with a few rains and a drop in temperature

Newsroom October 31 12:28

This October has been extremely dry across almost the entire country.

The drought behavior in October in our country is rated extreme, according to the recordings of 118 stations of the network of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr which have at least 15 years of operation. The map shows the percentage deviation of rainfall in October this year from the average monthly value of the last 15 years.

This October has been exceptionally dry across most of the country this year:

– At 95 stations the rainfall was zero or minimal, showing a variation of 80 to 95% relative to normal October values.
– At no station was the monthly rainfall higher than the average value of the last 15 years

It should also be noted that according to station records, this October was the driest in at least the last 15 years (with the exception of areas in northwestern Greece such as Corfu and Ioannina) where this October was the second driest.

With northerly winds and a slight drop in temperature, October will bid us farewell

Today, Thursday 31 October, north winds are strengthening in the Aegean Sea. The temperature will drop slightly, while there will be some rain, according to ERT meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos. The north winds in the Aegean will reach 8 Beaufort, the temperature at noon at 20 degrees Celsius and locally in the Dodecanese, southern Crete and the west will reach 25 degrees.

A few local showers will occur in eastern Thessaly, Euboea, northern Crete and Messinia. Maybe in the southern Ionian Sea and a few thunderstorms
