Weather: Weekend with autumn temperatures without rain

When are rains expected - The EMY forecast until Wednesday

Newsroom November 2 08:08

This weekend in Greece, expect pleasant autumn weather with some clouds in the northwestern regions, but no rain in sight! Meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou notes that while winds will be relatively strong in the central Aegean today, they’ll taper off in the afternoon. However, a chilly spell will be felt in Northern Greece starting Sunday, particularly in Thrace, where the cold will become more pronounced on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As we look ahead, Klearchos Marousakis warns of a cold air mass moving in from Ukraine that will drop temperatures in the coming days. Fortunately, current forecasts indicate that significant rain isn’t likely until around November 8-10, largely due to a high-pressure system preventing bad weather across much of Europe. There is, however, a developing low-pressure system near Cyprus that could bring some rain there in the next 24 hours.

Weather Overview

Today, you can expect plenty of sunshine interspersed with a few clouds, particularly in the northern and mountainous parts of Crete, where localized rain is possible. Visibility may be limited in some areas during the evening and early morning hours, especially on the mainland.

Temperature Ranges:

  • Northern Greece: 6 to 23 degrees (with Western Macedonia slightly cooler at 1 to 20 degrees)
  • Central and Southern Greece: 9 to 22 degrees
  • Western Greece: 10 to 23 degrees (in Epirus, 7 to 20 degrees)
  • Cyclades and Crete: 13 to 22 degrees
  • East Aegean Islands: 10 to 23 degrees
  • Dodecanese: 12 to 25 degrees

Winds in the Aegean will be from the north, ranging from light to moderate at 3-4 Beaufort, while in the Southeastern Aegean, winds may pick up to 5 Beaufort. The Ionian Sea will see lighter winds that will gradually shift to the northwest after noon, with moderate winds of 4-5 Beaufort in the Northern Ionian.

Regional Weather Updates

  • Macedonia and Thrace: Expect variable winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening from the north overnight. Temperatures will range from 9 to 23 degrees, dropping a bit in Western Macedonia.
  • Ionian Islands and Epirus: Variable winds of 3 to 4 Beaufort with some areas reaching up to 5 Beaufort. Temperatures will be between 11 and 25 degrees.
  • Eastern Sterea, Evia, and East Peloponnese: Variable winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 12 to 24 degrees.
  • Cyclades and Crete: Generally clear skies with a few morning clouds in Crete. Winds will be 4 to 5 Beaufort, with temperatures from 15 to 26 degrees.
  • Dodecanese: Expect general clear conditions, with temperatures from 16 to 26 degrees.
  • Thessaloniki: Light clouds early on, transitioning to clearer weather. Winds will vary from 3 to 4 Beaufort, with temperatures from 11 to 23 degrees.

Upcoming Days

Sunday, November 3: Expect clouds over the eastern and northern mainland, with some localized rain, especially in eastern Thessaly, Evia, and the Sporades. The rest of the country will enjoy generally clear weather. Winds will pick up, especially in the Aegean, and temperatures will slightly drop, reaching 17 to 20 degrees in the north and 21 to 25 degrees in the southern regions.

Monday, November 4: Cloudy conditions with occasional showers in the northern and eastern parts of the mainland, gradually improving by afternoon. The rest of the country will see clearer skies. Winds will remain from the east, with slightly cooler temperatures expected.

Tuesday, November 5: Generally clear weather dominates, with some local clouds in certain regions. Morning visibility may be limited, particularly along coastal areas. Winds will vary, and temperatures will dip further.

Wednesday, November 6: Expect clear weather overall, with local clouds developing in some areas. Temperature changes will be minimal, but it will remain cool.
