A wave of support for the Iranian student who defied the regime and stripped off her clothes to protest

The courage to resist oppression", "The girl is not brave because she got naked, but because she knew the consequences" were comments on social media

Newsroom November 4 10:28

Tension is mounting over the fate of an Iranian student who was left in her underwear outside the university she attends in Tehran on Saturday in protest at strict rules imposed by the vice police.

The girl was arrested after the symbolic act of protest inside the campus of the Islamic Azad University in Tehran and her fate has been unknown since.

Humanitarian organizations have complained that the student suffered physical and sexual violence during her arrest and have expressed concern about the conditions under which she is being held. At the same time, journalist Habib Khan claims that the young girl named Ahoo Daryaei is mentally ill and has been sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Meanwhile, there has been a huge outpouring of support on social media, while Amnesty International has also called on the Iranian authorities to release the student “immediately and unconditionally”.

“The courage to stand up to oppression”, “Probably the bravest woman in the world”, and “The girl is not brave because she stripped, but because she knew the consequences” are some of the comments from users.
