A tragic and shocking incident unfolded during a football match in Peru, when a lightning strike hit the field, taking the lives of players on the pitch. Seven players were knocked down by the impact, resulting in the death of one player and severe injuries to four others.

The tragic twist of fate occurred just moments after referees paused the game due to worsening weather conditions and directed both teams to return to the locker rooms.

Defender Jose Hugo de la Cruz Mesa was killed instantly by the strike, while goalkeeper Juan Choque is currently fighting for his life with severe burns covering much of his body. Upon arrival at the hospital in Huancayo, Mesa’s death was officially confirmed.
