With a barrage of independence of MPs, but also resignations either from parliamentary roles or from the party, the next day of the split for Syriza has been colored: Koumoundourou is now giving the “all-out fight” to maintain the position of the official opposition and with it its return to political “normality”.

In the wake of the independence of MPs Petros Pappas, Ralias Christidou, Kyriaki Malamas, and Alexander Avlonitis yesterday, Yota Poulou, Giorgos Gavrilos, and Yiannis Sarakiotis, as well as Theodora Tzakri and Thanos Moraitis were suspended from their parliamentary duties (but not from the party) today.

Syriza’s first-ranking executives, led by the party’s presidential candidate, Pavlos Polakis, have called on his colleagues who are to become independent to reconsider, discounting that the “Kasselakis party” will have no future.

Syriza currently maintains its position as the main opposition due to its parity in parliamentary strength with PASOK, although this advantage will be “burned” if Koumoundourou falls below 31 MPs.

Catalyst Tzakri

For her part, a central figure in the maintenance or not of SYRIZA PS in an opposition position is played by MP for Pella, Theodora Tzakri, who, speaking to ANT1, essentially indicated that she is leaving the Syriza in the next 24 hours, saying “in the next few days my moves will evolve”, to add elsewhere in her interview that “there is a plan” and that “my ultimate limit will be the announcement of the new Kasselakis party”.

Until then, however, SYRIZA PS is intensifying efforts to maintain its parliamentary status, even though, according to the staff of Stefanos Kasselakis, the departures of cadres and party organizations are escalating.

As reported by associates of the former SYRIZA PS President, “members of the District Committees of SYRIZA, including coordinators and deputy coordinators, are submitting their resignations. The beginning was made with the three largest ones in the basin. More specifically, in the Prefecture of East Attica, 18 of the 27 members of the body resigned, while in East Athens, 20 of the 31 members of the body resigned. Also 20 out of 31 members of the Prefecture of West Athens resigned. It is expected that more individual resignations of members of these bodies who wished to resign by private text will follow. In the coming days, meetings have been scheduled with other prefectures throughout the country. Finally, there has been a collective departure of 129 members of the Keratsini SYRIZA organization, they note.

According to reports, the members and executives of SYRIZA PS to be withdrawn towards the “movement” of Stefanos Kasselakis will be preceded by the members of the party’s Central Committee, followed by the coordinating bodies of the prefectural organizations and then the coordinating bodies of the local organizations. Their campaign staffers say that tomorrow they will give detailed information regarding the wave of withdrawals.

For their part, Kumundourou sources have not been informed of any resignations of Central Committee members, despite reports that 107 members of the Central Committee have left the party and are battling to keep to the timetable as far as intra-party elections are concerned.

In this context, the staffs of the four presidential candidates are meeting at 6 pm in Kumundourou, in order to reach a decision to hold a debate on November 18 or 19.

It is recalled that the first round of the internal party elections is on November 24 and the second round on December 1 respectively.
