On Tuesday afternoon (12/11), the EuroLeague General Assembly rejected the possibility of hosting the Final-4 in Abu Dhabi, leaving Belgrade as the only candidate city for the event during the current season.
It is worth noting that the league’s team shareholders had initially supported the Serbian capital, but there was room for further discussion after Abu Dhabi made a substantial financial offer to host the prestigious event for the next three years.
Specifically, the United Arab Emirates offered 75 million euros over the next three years to host the EuroLeague Final-4 for three consecutive seasons in the Middle East.
Another reason the teams favored the tradition of Belgrade over the innovation of Abu Dhabi was the upcoming 25th anniversary of EuroLeague Basketball’s foundation. The year 2025 will be a milestone year for the competition.
Now, only formal procedures and announcements remain to officially confirm the return of the Final-4 to Belgrade, specifically to the imposing “Beogradska Arena,” following its previous hosting in 2018 and 2022.
