37th Panorama of European Cinema: Premieres and tributes await

The movies that stand out

The 37th Panorama of European Cinema, scheduled from November 21 to 27, promises Greek premieres of both domestic and international films, tributes to prominent figures of the big screen, special screenings, and parallel events. The screenings will take place at the Trianon Newman and STUDIO New Star Art Cinema, as well as at the Hellenic American Union.

Festival Highlights

The full program was unveiled by artistic director Ninos Fenek Mikelides and market and education director Vassilis Mazomenos at a press conference held at the L. Stavrakos Film School, with the participation of Aimé Besson, Audiovisual Attaché of the French Institute in Greece.

Opening and Closing Films

The festival opens with Alexandros Avranas’ “Quiet Life”, which debuted at Venice Film Festival’s parallel competition, receiving acclaim. The Greek premiere will feature the presence of the director and cast.

The closing film, premiering in Greece, is Guillaume Nicloux’s French production, “Sarah Bernhardt, La Divine.” Before the screening, distributor Zinos Panagiotidis will be honored for his contributions to Greek cinema.

Premieres and Competitions

During the festival, audiences can enjoy premieres of:

  • “Three Kilometers to the End of the World” (Emanuel Parvu, Romania, 2024)
  • “Toxic” (Saule Bliuvaite, Lithuania, 2024)
  • “And the Party Goes On” (Robert Guédiguian, France-Italy, 2023)

Additionally, the European Competition Section will feature 11 films, details of which can be found on the festival’s official site.

  • “Laikoi Vardoi: Moments from Their Lives and Ours”, featuring a tribute to the late Panos Geramanis and his iconic radio show.

This rich lineup makes the 37th Panorama of European Cinema a vibrant celebration of cinematic art, blending premieres, tributes, and cultural retrospectives.
