Ukraine: London ready to give the green light for long-range missiles against Russia

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer raised the issue with President Biden during his visit to the US ahead of the American elections in early September

Newsroom November 18 05:17

The United Kingdom is ready to follow the United States in granting Ukraine approval to use long-range missiles against Russia, according to sources within the British government.

The shadow defense minister of the Conservative Party, James Cartlidge, stated early this morning that he hopes the U.S. decision will push the British government to take similar action.

It is worth noting that British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer raised this issue with President Biden during his visit to the U.S. ahead of the U.S. elections in early September, though Biden had rejected giving consent at that time.

A few days later, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and five former UK Defense Ministers, including Grant Shapps and Ben Wallace, urged the British Prime Minister to allow Kyiv to use British ballistic missiles, despite Biden’s objections at the time.

In his statements today, as he travels to the G20 summit in Brazil, Sir Keir Starmer emphasized that he does not intend to meet with Putin, unlike German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who did so recently. He also stressed, “We must double our efforts to strengthen our support for Ukraine.”
