In December 2024, Theodoros Vlachos will mark 10 years at the helm of Greece’s men’s national water polo team.

The experienced coach, the only Greek to have won the Champions League (with Olympiacos), has achieved significant milestones in his decade with the national team, including an Olympic silver medal (2020) and two bronze and one silver medals in World Championships.

Recently, Vlachos, the only Greek to win an Olympic medal with the men’s national team, extended his collaboration with the Hellenic Swimming Federation (KOE) and will remain as head coach until 2028.

Speaking to protothema.gr about the new four-year cycle and Greece’s objectives, he said:

“One Olympic cycle has ended, and a new one begins. We are starting this new four-year journey filled with enthusiasm for even harder work.

The team has proven over the years that it belongs among the world’s elite, and that must continue,” he initially stated, adding, “Due to our successes, we are compelled to aim high. It’s not enough for this team to simply be among the world’s best. We want to chase the very summit.

The competition is fierce, but we have shown that we know how to be protagonists. The main goal for this four-year period is the Los Angeles Olympics.

Until then, however, there are major tournaments where we must fight to reach the top.”
