Riley Keough, the talented actress and granddaughter of Elvis Presley, spoke candidly about the weight of her family legacy and her life as the sole heir to the Graceland estate during the promotional tour for her book From Here to the Great Unknown.
The 35-year-old addressed the ongoing speculation about a so-called “curse” on her family, dismissing the idea. Instead, she described the tragedies her family has experienced over the years as a “series of tragic yet common events scrutinized under the harsh spotlight of public attention.”
“I think the word ‘curse’ is used because my family is treated as ‘mythical’ or something like that, but in reality, it’s about very common things, like addiction,” she said, referring to the deaths of her mother and brother.
Following the sudden passing of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, in early 2023, Riley became the sole heir to Graceland, the iconic home of Elvis Presley, and took on the responsibility of managing the family estate.
Speaking about what it’s like to live in the historic mansion, Riley noted that it isn’t as intimidating as it seems. She added that she had been involved in its management for many years, as it belonged to her mother. According to People and Keough’s own words, her involvement began in her 20s, when Lisa Marie often sought her help and advice on various matters.
